Improve Health & Activity & Privacy

Improve Health & Activity is designed to protect your information and enable you to choose what you share.


Improve Health & Activity sends activity, workout and health-related information from your iPhone, iPad, Apple Vision Pro, AirPods and Apple Watch to Apple in order to develop, improve and understand the effectiveness of health, activity and fitness features. This may include raw and analysed data from health- and activity-related sensors, such as data from the photoplethysmography (PPG) sensor on Apple Watch. Your data will not be used for any other purpose and does not include personal data.

Information We Collect

The information that Apple may collect as part of Improve Health & Activity includes certain data you have entered in the Health app (such as age, sex, height, weight and wheelchair mode state), data that is shown in the Health and Fitness apps on your Apple Watch, iPhone, iPad and Apple Vision Pro, data from health- and fitness-related apps used with AirPods and certain data collected from AirPods. For example, the information shared may include information related to:

Heart Health

  • Your use of the ECG app (such as number of ECG recordings taken, results and any associated symptoms)
  • Heart rhythm, such as Irregular Rhythm Notifications, frequency and type of notifications, number and type of heart rhythm measurements, percentages of certain atrial fibrillation values, your interactions with different data types and relevant life factors, and the number and possible causes of inconclusive measurements
  • Heart-related measurements and visualisations
  • Your use of the Blood Pressure Log feature, such as whether you logged a blood pressure reading, the period between your logged readings, the total number of blood pressure readings logged, and information related to how your logged blood pressure readings correlate to your use of the Hypertension Notification feature
  • Your use of the Hypertension Notification feature, such as the number of hypertension notifications received and the period between hypertension notifications received

Blood Oxygen

  • Your use of the Blood Oxygen app, such as the results of successful measurements, specific number of measurements taken and certain quality of measurements

Mental Wellbeing

  • Your use of the Mental Wellbeing features, such as your interaction with the features, whether and when you completed a clinical assessment, the frequency of your State of Mind logging, the frequency and type of notifications enabled and your interactions with notifications
  • Your use of the Mindfulness app, such as mindfulness session type, whether heart rate was calculated, and respiration measurement data captured during a Mindfulness Follow Your Breathing session, including your average breath rate, session length and certain session error data

Cycle Tracking

  • Symptoms and results related to and derived from menstrual cycles, pregnancy and cycle factors, including the use of contraceptives, the detection of prolonged menstrual periods, irregular or infrequent menstrual cycles, persistent spotting, ovulation estimates, menstrual period and fertile window predictions, and reported at-home ovulation test results
  • Your use of and engagement with the Pregnancy feature, including your current pregnancy status, certain calculated dates related to your pregnancy (such as whether you set a pregnancy due date), your gestational age and whether you chose to add your pregnancy to your Medical ID

Medications

  • Your use of the Medications feature, such as whether you logged a medication, the method used to log a medication, the creation of a medication schedule, the medication schedule type, actions taken related to medication schedules, and your interaction with and use of Medications settings and notifications

Sleep

  • Your use of the Sleep app on Apple Watch and Sleep in the Health app, such as sleeping respiratory rate values, sleep schedules and how they differ from recorded time asleep, motion data and other device usage data used to determine and predict time asleep, information related to sleep stages, and information related to your use of and interaction with Sleep Score, such as number of awake events during a sleep session
  • Your use of and interaction with the Sleep Apnoea Notifications feature, including your breathing disturbance values, the start hour and duration of your sleep session, the frequency of your breathing disturbances, and the longest breathing disturbance occurrence during a sleep session

Hearing Health

  • Audio data related to hearing health, such as headphone audio levels, environmental sound exposure levels and environmental sound reduction data
  • The hearing test and hearing aid features on AirPods Pro, such as whether you completed a hearing test, the duration of the hearing test, when you took the hearing test, the number of audiograms completed and the audiogram classifications, and information related to your surrounding environment

Activity and Motion

  • Activity and Motion data, such as stand hours, exercise minutes, flights climbed, altitude and depth, Move ring completion percentage, physical activity level, workout data (such as type, mode, source, duration and information related to the workouts you share, and certain limited information related to your interaction with notifications about a friend’s activity in Activity Sharing), mobility-related information, accelerometer, gyroscope, the general direction you are facing and pressure data
  • Your use of Apple Fitness+ features and workouts

Health Sharing

  • Your use of the Health Sharing feature that enables the sharing of your health data with your family and friends, such as the number of sharing relationships, the number of health topics shared, modifications to health topics shared, information related to the health trends generated and shared, and your interaction with Health Sharing notifications
  • Your use of the “Share with your doctor” feature, such as frequency of use; the minimum, maximum and average number of health topics shared; and the numerical range of healthcare providers you are sharing health data with

Medical ID and Safety

  • Your use of Medical ID, such as completed fields and your interactions with the feature
  • Your use of and interaction with the Fall Detection feature on Apple Watch, such as the number of times fallen and other fall and impact information

Siri and the Health app

  • Your use of Siri to access your Health app data, such as the type of Health app data you queried, and the type of request you made, including whether you made a request to record information in or request information from the Health app

Other

  • Wrist temperature measurements, such as aggregated temperature measurements and other temperature-based information, including information derived from wrist temperature measurement data
  • Wrist state and orientation
  • Vision prescription and related fields
  • When and how you import certain verifiable health records data into the Health app, as well as related data displayed in the Health app, such as VO₂ max
  • Your use of and interaction with the Vitals app on Apple Watch and Vitals in the Health app, such as the number of health metrics that are out of typical range, the number of notifications received and information about your use of certain Health features used to support Vitals
  • Your use of and interaction with the Time in Daylight feature, such as the estimated time you spend in daylight and the aggregate statistics of the ambient light values present
  • How and whether other third-party fitness apps or devices are installed, used or connected; your engagement with certain Apple health and fitness features or algorithms used in third-party apps (for example, HealthKit APIs); your approximate location; your interactions with the Health app and the Fitness app; how long you’ve been using Apple Watch; and your enablement of and engagement with activity- and health-related apps, notifications, settings and features

All the above data may be aggregated or otherwise combined in a form that does not personally identify you, and analysed on your iPhone, iPad, Apple Vision Pro, AirPods and Apple Watch before being sent to Apple.

Use and Disclosure of Improve Health & Activity Data

Apple may use data collected under Improve Health & Activity to develop, improve and understand the effectiveness of health, activity and fitness features. Improve Health & Activity data may also be used by Apple to identify trends and estimate metrics for certain activity- and health-related features. Health app data collected under Improve Health & Activity may also be used to develop and improve models that power features of the Health app. For example, aggregate Health app search queries may be used to improve Health app search models. Your data will not be used for any other purpose and does not include personal data.

In limited circumstances, Apple may share certain aggregated data with appropriate health and medical regulatory authorities as needed to support regulatory submissions. Data shared will not include any individual-level data or data that may identify you.

By enabling Improve Health & Activity, you agree and consent to Apple’s and its subsidiaries’ and agents’ transmission, collection, maintenance, processing, use and disclosure of this information as described above. Apple may store this information with trusted third-party service providers.

At all times, information collected by Apple will be treated in accordance with Apple’s Privacy Policy, which can be found at www.apple.com/au/privacy.
